Presently, more than 10 million Indians are working in the private sector including the manufacturing sector with having tensions for their health, income, and for their dependents as well.
To reduce this level of stress of many employees, the Government of India had implemented the ESI scheme which has many benefits for insured employees and workers.
What is an ESI Scheme?
ESI (Employee's State Insurance) scheme was founded on 25th February 1952 to provide security against health-related eventualities by the Government of India. There were two major industrial areas at that time, so the ESI scheme was initially implemented in both areas. This scheme enables workers and employees to nullify the financial burden due to such unfortunate casualties.
- This scheme provides medical care for an insured employee and his dependents. (such as - Wife, children, mother, and father)
- This scheme also offers many benefits to the insured and their dependents like free medical care, maternity, pension, etc.
- This scheme is for employees working in a company or an organization with more than 10 employees.
Where ESI schemes are implemented?
As of 31st March 2021, ESI Scheme has been implemented in 568 districts in all the states and Union Territories, except Lakshadweep. Presently, this scheme covers more than 2.13 crores of insured employees and total beneficiaries are more than 8.28 crores.
